After a childhood spent reading Sleepover Friends, The Baby-Sitters Club, and Sweet Valley Twins - a childhood which resulted in a sincere appreciation for literature - I'm a big proponent of the theory that it genuinely doesn't matter what kids read as long as they are reading. Therefore, I wholeheartedly recommend any and all of the Star Wars World of Reading books, in particular those that touch on the two main characters Finn (a black man) and Rey (a white woman). Our 4 year old's entire life right now is Star Wars, and one recent Sunday morning we spent over 3 hours on the couch reading these books. I'm a fan of Star Wars, and these books are essentially child-friendly retellings of the plot, so I enjoy reading them as well (at least the first 5 times). Our current favorites include Chaos at the Castle, Finn and Poe Team Up, and Finn and the First Order. If you want to go all in, 5-Minute Star Wars Stories is really fun.
